The European Union (EU) is the world’s largest import market for agricultural commodities and food. The EU demand for bakery products is a well-established market, and continues to grow. The combined GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the EU countries was approximately $16.49 trillion USD in 2016, just slightly smaller the U.S. Due to their large economies and thriving bakery industries, Spain and Italy are two countries within the EU that continue to offer good opportunities for U.S. suppliers within the bakery ingredient sector.
